Harvest Quest: Level Design - Farm Level
After our team had successfully tested and implemented the assets, it was time to move on from the test scenes and start making the actual scenes. Before committing to any idea, I created some concept mock-ups in Balsamiq to share with the team and get their feedback on. The biggest challenge was to find a satisfying place the player's home while also keeping the scene transition to town on the northern edge of the level. Everything else is designed around the placement of those two assets.
After creating a few layout concepts, I shared what I had with the team. I intended to make more than these three, but the rest of the team really like the third concept, so we decided to move forward with that layout!
From here, I got to work making the basic level layout. Our team did not have all the props made up yet outside of ones used for the initial concept, so I am holding off on implementing those until I have everything we will be working with. Everything that is needed for the game to be functional in the level is included and is ready to play once the programmers are finished with the battle mechanics!
Now, it is time to work on the layout ideas for the town! I have a few ideas for this already, but that will have to wait for a future update!
